Give to the Friends of Scouting
Who is the Friends of Scouting Campaign?
When you read the title of this article, I bet the first thing that popped into your head was “shouldn’t that be ‘What’ is Friends of Scouting instead of ‘Who’?” Well, no I really mean “Who”. What most of you don’t know and what I didn’t realize until I got involved in the Family Friends of Scouting Campaign for the Ojibwa District, is the great commitment and dedication of the many volunteers that make the campaign such a success. In fact, without them there wouldn’t be an FOS. And we all know that without the FOS we wouldn’t have the great Scouting program we have in the Clinton Valley Council.
Over the past two years, I’ve been amazed by the effort put into the campaign by the volunteer presenters. They donate their precious time to prepare presentations and visit the Packs and Troops to speak from their hearts about the importance of Scouting and how the FOS supports our great district. Many of these volunteers will make five or six presentations this year, some on very short notice, because to them, there isn’t anything more important than making sure that the boys in the Clinton Valley Council have the opportunity to participate in the Scouting experience.
When I introduce an FOS presenter to a unit, I introduce them as a “Very Special Visitor” because they are. When your unit has its FOS campaign presentation, remind everyone of how special these volunteers are and how valuable they are to your unit and to Scouting. They do a very special job for a very special cause - Scouting.
